Imagine that nighttime never ended, that darkness was never challenged by the rising of the sun and there was no such thing as daytime.
We would sleep and wake in black, we wouldn't very well be able to see the colors or details of the world around us, the world would be cold and dismal. But we wouldn't know any better, because we would have only ever known the night.
Just imagine what your life would be like, living in the dark.
Because humanity is.
Humanity is living in a world of night, spiritually speaking, and so were you, ONCE, and so was I.
We were the children of darkness.
But the moment you and I were born again we were adopted into a different family and in that very moment we became children of the light.
By this new name, we have been commanded to take up the fiery sword of God’s Word and shine the way to the Cross and illuminate the truth beneath the murky depths of the darkness.
Our Savior, Jesus Christ, is our LIGHT:
We have been given a promise:
And because we have become children of God, we have become lights of this world, to shine in such a way, that by the way we act and the things we do and say, the ones still living in the darkness can see the way to the cross, and to Jesus, and to eternal life and light.
Too many Children of Light today, take their candles and shut them in the closet, so that the world does not see. Mostly this is done because we are afraid, afraid of what others will think, afraid of what they will say, afraid of not fitting in.
I am guilty of doing this same thing.
But you know what? Yes, walking as Children of the light will make us stand out, yes it might make people think or speak badly of us, or even exclude us, but it is worth it. Because those people are dying, if they go on living in the dark they are going to go to Hell - and is that not reason enough to pull out our candle from beneath our bed or from behind our closet’s door and hold it up so that it illuminates the way of life?
If someone was stumbling around a cliff while it was too dark for them to see, and you had a flashlight that could help them see the edge so they would not fall, would you not readily turn it on and shine the light on it? Of course! (or at least I hope you would)
-The people of this world are that person (John 12:35
Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.), they are stumbling around and sooner or later, they are going to step off the cliff unknowingly - but we have the flashlight, if only we will turn on our lights so that those who were once blind may now see.
We must remember that we are not of this world, and because we are not, the world is going to hate us, but isn't being despised worth it if we can lead even one lost child to Jesus? And besides that, isn't Jesus, the one who gave His life for ours, worth standing up for? Even if it causes the world to hate us?
My prayer is that we can stand in the truth and walk mightily in the light, shining our candles in this dark world, that we may bring glory to our Savior who shed His blood for us.
The time is NOW, to take up our candles and sword and burn brightly in the face of darkness, so that those who are blind may see, and those who are lost may be found!
IT IS TIME TO WALK AS CHILDREN OF LIGHT!
